MP John Kiarie: Transforming Education in Dagoretti South

n a landmark achievement for Dagoretti South Constituency, Lenana School Primary has opened its doors as the first public primary school in Ngando Ward. This significant development, celebrated by the local community, is a testament to the progressive leadership of MP John Kiarie, popularly known as KJ.

The inception of Lenana School Primary was driven by the tragic events of 2019 at a private school in Ngando Ward, underscoring the urgent need for accessible and safe educational facilities. In response, MP Kiarie and his team expedited the establishment of Lenana School Primary, now a beacon of hope for families in the area.

Lenana School Primary is the sixth new school to welcome students in Dagoretti South this year alone. Through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), MP Kiarie has overseen the construction of a new school in every ward of the constituency. Other new schools include Kagira Mixed Secondary School, Mūkarara Mixed Secondary School, Rīruta Satellite Mixed Secondary School, Ndurarūa Mixed Secondary School, and Mūtūinī Girls’ School. These institutions reflect Kiarie’s unwavering commitment to improving educational infrastructure and the lives of his constituents.

A standout initiative of Kiarie’s tenure is the comprehensive school feeding program, the first of its kind in the republic. This program serves over 22,000 hot lunches daily in public schools, addressing nutritional needs and enhancing learning outcomes by ensuring that students are well-fed and ready to learn. “A hungry child cannot learn effectively,” Kiarie stated. “This program ensures every child in Dagoretti South has an equal opportunity to succeed.”

Kiarie’s leadership is marked by a focus on tangible development and efficient use of resources. His efforts in renovating and constructing schools demonstrate a strategic deployment of NG-CDF funds, underscoring his dedication to raising educational standards. “Investing in our schools is investing in our future,” Kiarie emphasized.

Elected for a second term, Kiarie’s political career is notable for his victories over former area MP Dennis Waweru and his 2022 election win on the ruling UDA ticket. Beyond his constituency, Kiarie is an active member of the National Assembly, known for his contributions to debates and bills. He chairs the Departmental Committee on Education, advocating for policies that support educational development nationwide.

Kiarie’s tenure is characterized by a vision for progress and a commitment to community upliftment. Under the hashtags #KjNaMashule and #NiKuchachishaNaMiradi, he has garnered support and showcased transformative projects in Dagoretti South. These efforts have earned the constituency the nickname #DSTheModelConstituency, reflecting its status as a leading example of effective governance and development.
